Annotation:Critical Health, edited and published by an Editorial Collective focused on health issues in the context of the prevailing socio-economic climate of unequal provision of health care facilities and health care services. The need for improved working conditions for nurses and other health care workers, including doctors, was discussed within the context of the formation of trade unions representing the health sector. Prevailing medical ethics in treating detainees, particularly those having been tortured, was probed. The continuing struggle for improved and equitable health services in South Africa where apartheid policies of fragmentation and politicisation of health services played havoc with the health of the nation was extensively documented in Critical Health.
