a Postdoctoral Researcher as Lab Manager for Lab² (f/m/x)

for the project “Incubator for Collaborative and Transparent Economic Sciences: Lab² ” funded by the Leibniz Association 2024-2027 (K523/2023), led by Dr. Levent Neyse (Berlin) and Prof. Anna Dreber (Stockholm School of Economics).
The position is full-time (39 hours per week) for a period of three years, starting preferably on 1. September 2024.
Project description
Lab² aims to be one of the most influential hubs for replications, robustness studies, and metascience in the field of economics. Lab² will work on three sets of activities: research, knowledge transfer as well as support and education. These activities will be conducted with a large consortium of economic laboratories and cooperation partners. Lab² will run, coordinate, and promote various types of replication and robustness studies to test the validity of scientific findings in economics. Lab² will also focus on scientific practices and tools of transparency by following the life cycle of research projects from conception to (post-)publication, thus aiming to contribute to developing common scientific norms and standard guidelines for transparent and replicable science. In addition to research, Lab² will organize scientific workshops, conferences, seminar series, public lectures and other forms of knowledge transfer and educational activities.

Job description
Your tasks
  • Acting as the lab manager and technical coordinator of Lab² at the WZB in Berlin
  • Leading the data collection, management, and coordination of research projects within the Lab² framework
  • Programming experiments and surveys (i.e. zTree, zTree unleashed, oTree, Qualtrics, Smartriqs)
  • Preparing and disseminating replication packages and datasets to cooperation partners
  • Assisting with the development of methods to strengthen the replication and metascience agenda
  • Contributing to the design of studies
  • Co-authoring (with the Lab² members) in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
  • Conducting your own independent research on topics related to the project
  • Taking part in and contributing to Lab² network and WZB/ Berlin School of Economics activities, such as the seminar series and meetings
Your qualifications profile
  • Doctoral degree - or near to completion of doctorate - in economics, psychology, computational social sciences, data science or a related discipline on a topic relevant to the project
  • Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience in experimental methods (both laboratory and online experiments) as well as surveys
  • In-depth knowledge of experimental and survey programming language and software such as z-Tree, oTree, Qualtrics, Smartriqs. Experience with Python and machine learning is an advantage
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as STATA, MATLAB, R, and/or Python
  • Excellent academic writing and communication skills in English
  • Experience with collaborative research in a project environment and high motivation to engage in such an environment
