It lists their key biographical details, addresses, information on their focuses and fields of research. It also contains extensive bibliographical material, including a selection of the most important publications in journals, collective volumes, and encyclopedias.

The biographical archives included in the collection take account of different languages and cultures. Also included in WBIS Online is the World Biographical Index (WBI), which gives users access to biographical data from 57 archives.
