Dr. Rena Schwarting
As a postdoctoral fellow in the research area "Digitalization and Societal Transformation", I study the embeddedness of digital technologies in organizations as well as its impacts on the societal spheres. In particular, I am interested in the relation of "decision automation and decision autonomy" (Schwarting 2014) in different types of organizations and governance modes. I am teaching courses on organization, technology, and societal change.
After studying sociology, political science and media studies in Osnabrueck, Bielefeld, Alicante, and Paris, I worked as a research associate at the Witten/Herdecke University Department of Economics and Management and the Bielefeld University Faculty of Sociology. I received a doctorate from the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS). During my PhD research I was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the University of Chicago Department of Sociology. In my dissertation, I have explored the emergence of formal organizations in the course of societal differentiation.
