Administrative Office of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society

The administrative office of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society is part of the research group “Politics of Digitalization” at the WZB.

Between 2015 and 2017, the research group and the WZB coordinated Berlin’s application for the “German Internet Institute”, which was put out to tender by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Berlin-Brandenburg network, which includes the WZB, Berlin’s four universities (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin), the University of Potsdam and the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS), was awarded the contract for the joint project, funded with €50 million in the first five years. The work of the Weizenbaum Institute for Networked Society focuses on interdisciplinary research into the interactions between digitization and society. To this end, 80 new research positions were created. The Weizenbaum Institute started its work in mid-September 2017.
