Digital Citizenship in Cities

Cities and local governments around the world are struggling with contemporary challenges of active citizenship and participation. As a response, digital technologies are introduced to shape a new, digital citizenship. These include digital platforms for co-decision making, systems for the promotion of good deeds through social credit, and citizenship gamification platforms.

The WZB, European University Institute, University of Florence and CNRS are gathering world-leading experts in the fields of philosophy, political theory, law, and computer science to discuss the notion of digital citizenship in cities. The workshop on the 10th of November has three goals: to gather empirical experiences from cities with digital citizenship, to discuss normative challenges and opportunities, and to create a policy-oriented consortium for new initiatives focused on digital citizenship research.
