Dr. Marcus Kölling

On May 15, 2025, Marcus Kölling took over the administrative management of the WZB, succeeding Ursula Noack. Together with WZB President Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln, he forms the management team of the institute.

A doctor of economics, Marcus Kölling brings many years of experience in academia, business, and university management to the WZB. Since May 2021, he was managing director of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam, where he most recently headed the institute together with Tobias Friedrich and Ralf Herbrich. Before that, he served as chancellor and Chief Financial Officer of the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. His academic career began at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where he earned his doctorate and worked as a lecturer and research assistant.
