Mareike Sirman-Winkler is a research associate in the “Globalization, Labor, and Production” research group at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and an associate researcher in the “Working with Artificial Intelligence” research group at the Weizenbaum Institute (WI). She earned her Ph.D. on the acceptance of AI in social administration. Before that, she worked as a policy analyst at a federal ministry. She studied European Studies with a focus on political science and political economy in Passau, Berlin, and Istanbul.

Her research focuses on the transformation of the world of work (particularly in public administration) driven by AI, which she examines from the perspectives of political science and the sociology of work. At the WZB, she is researching the implications of generative AI for knowledge work (external-funding project “GENKIA” at the WZB & WI). In cooperation with the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), she is conducting experiments on AI in public employment agencies (project “Acceptance of AI in Public Employment Services”).

Mareike teaches at public universities as well as at continuing education academies for the public sector. She has served as a reviewer for the Weizenbaum Journal of the Digital Society. She advises government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels on the use of AI technologies and is a speaker on the topic of AI.
