Visiting Research Professor

Peter J. Katzenstein is Visiting Research Professor Global Politics at the WZB and the Walter S. Carpenter, Jr. Professor of International Studies at Cornell University in Ithaca. His research and teaching lie at the intersection of the fields of international relations and comparative politics. Katzenstein's work addresses issues of political economy, security and culture in world politics. His current research interests focus on power and uncertainty in world politics, on time and space in the politics of civilizations and regions, and German and European politics. In 2020 he was named the 26th recipient of the renowned Johan Skytte Prize.

Recent books include: "Uncertainty and Its Discontents: Worldviews in World Politics" (Cambridge University Press, 2022); "Downfall: The End of the American Order" (Cornell University Press, 2022), co-edited with Jonathan Kirshner; and "Protean Power: Exploring the Uncertain and Unexpected in World Politics" (Cambridge University Press, 2018), co-edited with Lucia Seybert. He is the author, co-author, editor and co-editor of over 40 books, edited volumes or monographs, and over 100 articles or book chapters.

Peter J. Katzenstein served as President of the American Political Science Association (2008-09). He was a member of the WZB Advisory Board from 2005 to 2012 and served as its chair from March 2008 to December 2012.
