Prof. Dr. Theresa Gessler

Theresa Gessler is Assistant Professor for Comparative Politics at European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) and guest researcher at the Center for Civil Society Research. Her research interests are democracy, immigration, digitalization and politics in Central-Eastern Europe. Methodologically, her focus is on quantitative and computational social science methods, particularly text-as-data.

Until 2021, Theresa Gessler was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science and the Digital Democracy Lab at the University of Zurich. In 2019, she completed her dissertation on 'Political conflict on democracy and immigration in Europe'. She holds a Ph.D. from the European University Institute in Florence and an M.A. in Political Science from the Central European University in Budapest.
