New Program for Ukrainian Journalists at Risk

WZB offers Berlin-based stipend in collaboration with ZOiS

As part of its Journalist-in-residence program, the WZB Berlin Social Science Center in cooperation with the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) offers a stipend of up to three months for a journalist from Ukraine. The selected journalist will have the opportunity to continue her or his journalistic work at the WZB and to exchange regularly with researchers of both institutes.

The scholarship is aimed at journalists from Ukraine who work for national or international media on topics related to science, politics, society, or business. The residency will last between two to three months. For the entire stay a stipend of 7,000 Euros plus 500 Euros for expenses will be paid. In addition, the WZB will provide the fellow with an own workspace at the institute. The journalist-in-residence will also have access to the institute’s library services.

Applications will be accepted until 8 May 2022 and should include a CV, a short outline of the planned work to be undertaken during the residency as well as up to five relevant work samples. Applicants need to hold Ukrainian citizenship and have a sufficient proficiency level either in German or English.

Applications should be sent via e-mail to Harald Wilkoszewski, Head of the WZB’s Communications Department, at harald.wilkoszewski [at] wzb.eu ().

The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is one of the largest social science institutes in Europe and conducts research on societal change. The main topics are social inequality, change of political systems, international politics and law, migration and diversity, education and training, markets and decisions. Among its staff of about 500, 300 researchers work together, coming from various disciplines such as sociology, political science, economics, and law.

Since 2006, the WZB has run its Journalist in Residence Program, offering journalists to immerse in the world of research for several months and engage in a dialogue with scientists on a topic of their choice.

The Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) is an independent, international, publicly funded research institute. Its work focuses on foundational and socially relevant academic research on Eastern Europe.
