A.SK Bright Mind Awards

This year, for the first time, the work of two younger social scientists will be honoured alongside the A.SK Social Science Award. Filiz Garip (Princeton University) and Stefanie Stantcheva (Harvard University) will receive the "A.SK Bright Mind Awards", each endowed with 20,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 14 November at the WZB.

Filiz Garip, Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University, researches migration and social inequality - methodologically, she is very interested in the question of how knowledge can be gained from data. Born into a family of Turkish origin in Bulgaria and with a first degree in engineering, Filiz Garip has already crossed many borders. She is just as committed to social debates as she is to teaching.

Tax policy is Stefanie Stantcheva's main focus. As Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, she investigates the long-term effects of a country's tax system on innovation, education, and prosperity. She uses surveys and experiments to analyse people's attitudes towards government regulations in the tax and healthcare system, immigration, and environmental policy.

The "A.SK Bright Mind Awards" honour researchers at the postdoctoral, assistant professor, or junior professor level for their work on economic or government reforms.
