Supporting the Expansion and Quality Development of Early Childhood Education and All-Day Care for Primary School Children

Abstract

The project ‘Supporting the expansion and further development of the quality of childcare and all-day care for primary school children, as well as other measures in the field of child and youth policy’ supports the political and legal measures of the Federal Ministry for Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) during the current legislative period, together with its cooperation partners Prognos AG and fischerAppelt. The project focuses on the needs-based expansion and quality development of daycare services, the introduction of a legal entitlement to full-day care for primary school children, as well as the recruitment and retention of educational professionals.

The WZB provides interdisciplinary scientific support for the BMBFSFJ's key political and legal projects, focusing on legal and socio-legal analyses. Among other things, the research group produces legal analyses and expert briefs as well as comprehensive reports on innovative implementation approaches, regulatory effectiveness, and regulatory adaptation needs at the state level.

The project thus contributes to the evidence-based development of educational and care services, particularly with regard to accessibility and the reduction of social inequality. Findings from basic research on the conditions allowing young people to grow up well are specifically incorporated into legal policy discourses and measures. The research is interdisciplinary in nature and combines legal and social science perspectives.
