THE GOLD PROJECTIONS
Moderated by Shelly Kupferberg
THE GOLD PROJECTIONS by the Californian artist Joe Ramirez, will be open to the public at the Pierre Boulez Saal after sundown on five weekends in August. Two large, convex discs hang facing each other, surrounded by Frank Gehry’s elliptical architecture. Together, they become canvasses for a fascinating visual union of painting and film. The wooden discs, which Ramirez gilds in a painstaking artisanal process, form a unique surface onto which film sequences are projected, transforming the appearance of the images. Part of the film sequences shown is the fruit of a collaboration between the artist and the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
On August 23, the journalist Shelly Kupferberg will facilitate a discussion between the artist Joe Ramirez, WZB President and Thomas Mann Fellow 2018 Jutta Allmendinger, and Pierre Boulez Saal Director Ole Bækhøj. Each discussant will speak about their own unique perspective on the GOLD PROJECTIONS.
The discussion will be followed by an opportunity to experience the GOLD PROJECTIONS and to enter into conversation with the artist over refreshments.
