MoPED Workshop
The next Berlin Meeting on the Political Economy of Development (MoPED), organized by the Institutions and Political Inequality (IPI) unit at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, will take place on June 22-23, 2026.
The MoPED workshop offers an opportunity for scholars who focus on the political economy of development, broadly defined, to build community and foster collaboration. The workshop will consist of in-depth discussions of approximately 8 papers and/or research designs over two days. We particularly welcome works-in-progress that address (but are not limited to) governance, corruption, misinformation, conflict and violence, intergroup relations, and migration.
The meeting will be held in person at the WZB in Berlin, Germany. The WZB will cover local expenses for all participants, including two hotel nights, meals, and local transport. Additionally, we can cover round-trip travel to Berlin – within Europe or from the Global South – for invited postdoctoral researchers and PhD students.
We plan to discuss up to 8 papers/research designs. If you’d like to propose a paper for the agenda, please send a title and an abstract of no more than 500 words to lisa.garbe [at] wzb.eu by 15 February 2026.
If you want to take part without a paper on the agenda, please respond also by 15 February 2026 to lisa.garbe [at] wzb.eu including a sentence or two on what motivates you to take part.
We will confirm participation, the agenda, and support for participants, by mid-March 2026 and we are available to answer any questions you may have.
