The Sociology of Poverty

This conference presents sociological research on poverty conducted by a set of international scholars. Special attention is devoted to how the major societal institutions of work, family, housing, and education contribute to poverty.
The conference also explores enduring questions about the persistently high level of poverty in modern societies and the geographic distribution of poverty. The presenters will discuss and debate how sociological research on poverty can advance. The conference will feature cutting-edge research methods and theories for studying poverty and inequality. Ample time will be available for the discussion.

The conference is hosted by the Inequality and Social Policy Unit at the WZB, led by Professor David Brady.
